Cricket Cage, Chinese, Qing dynasty 1644–1911, colored porcelain vessel depicting animals and a cricket-fighting scene; 1st half of the 19th century; height 17.9 cm, width 4.6 cm., A rectangular ceramic object lies on a reflective surface, showing a long side with a textured, multicolored glaze and an end face with a circular opening. The surface colors visible include pale white or cream as a base, with muted green, soft pink, light blue, and touches of darker green and bluish-purple around the opening, and the interior of the opening appears dark green. The long top edge has a glossy green ribbed texture, and the long side displays an irregular pattern of raised dots and swirled glaze in the muted colors. The end face has a framed border of bluish-purple surrounding the circular opening, and the object and its colors are mirrored faintly on the shiny surface beneath. The background is a uniform light gray.
