Blue-and-white porcelain storage vessel, decorative figurative scenes including images of birds; possibly a Japanese product exported to Europe imitating Chinese wares. Height 58.5 cm, diameter 37 cm., A ceramic lidded jar with blue painted decoration on a white background sits against a dark gray backdrop; the jar has a rounded body tapering toward a narrower base and a flared rim under a domed lid topped with a small sculpted finial. The surface shows several painted figure scenes in cobalt blue depicting standing human figures in flowing robes, a person holding an umbrella-like object, floral and plant motifs, stylized cloud or wave forms, and decorative scrollwork near the neck. The visible colors are blue, white, and the dark gray of the background, with a small band of natural clay color at the jar’s base.
