Bell ghanta, 19th century, Tibet. Ritual object used in Tibetan Buddhist religious rites; percussion idiophone. Materials and features: bell with decoration of the bowl in the form of festoons; includes vajra dorje head, mantras. Height 18.7 cm; width 8.5 cm., A metal bell lying on its side against a gray background, showing a dark interior and a rim with a metallic edge; the exterior near the rim has ornate raised decoration and a textured band, and a decorative handle extends from the bell with an intricate openwork design; a clapper is visible inside the bell, and the surface beneath the bell produces a reflective mirror-like reflection; visible colors include gray, dark gray, black, bronze, and hints of red.
