Mirror with TLV decoration on a pedestal in the form of a qilin on a base; Chinese, Qing dynasty 1644–1911; mirror cast from chiseled bronze with decoration in flat relief: centrally placed knob enclosed in a square with four T-shaped motifs attached, and L- and V-shaped motifs at the edge; unicorn qilin cast from chiseled bronze; carved wooden base; 18th century mirror cast from an earlier product, possibly 6th century–?; sculpture, mirror; height 26 cm, diameter 16.2 cm; bronzes, mirrors, castings, qilin iconography., A dark brown sculptural figure of a reclining bovine with curved horns and a raised head sits on a carved reddish-brown wooden base; the bovine has smooth rounded forms, stylized flowing decorative lines along its body and tail, and a large crescent-shaped element rising behind it that rests on a cloud-like carved support, all rendered in shades of dark brown and black with subtle highlights.
