Mirror with TLV decoration on a pedestal in the form of a qilin on a base; Chinese, Qing dynasty 1644–1911. Mirror: cast from chiseled bronze, decoration in flat relief with a centrally placed knob enclosed in a square, four T-shaped motifs attached, and L- and V-shaped motifs at the edge. Pedestal: qilin cast from chiseled bronze; base: carved wood. 18th century mirror cast from an earlier product, possibly 6th century–?. Sculpture/mirror. Height 26 cm; diameter 16.2 cm., A sculpted reclining animal with curved horns rests on a carved wooden base, the animal appearing dark brown to black with a smooth, slightly polished surface and carved decorative lines on its body and tail; behind and above it is a large round disc that is mottled light beige to gray, held by a crescent-shaped support that is darker in color, and the background is a soft gradient of light gray.
