Mirror with TLV decoration on a pedestal in the form of a qilin on a base. Chinese; Qing dynasty 1644–1911. Mirror: cast from chiseled bronze, decoration in flat relief with a centrally placed knob enclosed in a square, four T-shaped motifs attached, and L- and V-shaped motifs at the edge; likely 18th century mirror itself cast from an earlier product, possibly 6th century–?. Unicorn qilin: cast from chiseled bronze. Base: carved wood. Sculpture/mirror; height 26 cm, diameter 16.2 cm., A sculpted reclining animal figure with curved horns and stylized ears, rendered in a dark brown material with lighter brown highlights, rests on a carved wooden base in a reddish-brown color; behind and partly above the figure is a round, ornate disc in a metallic gray-green tone with raised concentric decorative patterns, held by a dark brown decorative support connected to the animal.
