Guanyin giving birth to a son on a rock; sculptor unknown. Figurine of the goddess made of light coffee-colored alabaster, on a stone base feldspar with red and pink spots, painted with black lacquer. Qing dynasty 1644–1911, 18th–19th century, China. Chinese Buddhism; Chinese art. Goddess holds a rosary in her right hand and a child in her left. Sculpture, height 18.2 cm, width 13.8 cm., A roughly horizontal irregularly shaped object sits near the bottom of the image against a gradient background, showing a mix of pink, peach, beige, brown, black, and cream colors on its surface; the object has two rounded openings near its middle and a darker black form visible through and behind those openings, with mottled patches and a slightly translucent appearance in places, and a soft diffuse shadow beneath it on a light gray surface.
