Guanyin Giving Birth to a Son on a Rock; sculptor unknown. Figurine of the goddess made of light coffee-colored alabaster, mounted on a stone base feldspar with red and pink spots, painted with black lacquer. Qing dynasty 18th/19th century, China. Chinese Buddhist subject: Goddess with a rosary in her right hand, holding a child with her left hand. Sculpture; height 18.2 cm, width 13.8 cm., A small carved figure seated on a carved base, viewed from behind, with a smooth light beige material for the figure and a glossy black material for the irregular, blocky base; the figure wears a draped garment with carved decorative patterns and a hood or headdress, and the base has an angular, stacked appearance with chipped edges and a reflective surface; the background is a smooth gradient from dark gray at the top to lighter gray at the bottom, and the visible colors are beige, black, gray, and a few subtle brownish tones on the base.
