Decoration: floral ornaments including chrysanthemums, sakura, peonies, plant tendrils and geometric ornaments; kachôga bird-and-flower imagery featuring phoenixes/hoo and spotted pheasants. Style: Meiji 1868–1912; function: plant ornament., A large decorative ceramic vessel sits against a dark background, showing a bulbous shape with a flared rim and detailed painted ornament. The vessel displays a dense overall pattern of floral motifs and stylized foliage in shades of blue, red, and gold, with areas of white showing through the painted designs. A central roundel on the front contains a more delicate scene rendered in muted blue and red tones surrounded by a red border. Bands of patterned decoration encircle the rim and the base, featuring geometric and floral elements in blue and red with touches of green and gold. The surface alternates between richly detailed, busy sections and slightly more open white areas, and the interior rim appears pale with some discoloration. The vessel rests on a dark plinth.
