Japanese, Meiji period 1868–1912, 19th/20th century. Tray, height 3.0 cm, width 45.5 cm, depth 36.7 cm., A rectangular panel with a red frame encloses a dark background filled with large dark green leaves, several red flowers, and several pale yellow and cream flowers; three stylized birds with long striped tails in shades of gold, brown, and gray appear among the foliage, and small touches of orange and muted green accent leaves and petals throughout.
