Vase, Qajar dynasty 1785–1925, Persian, Islamic art; lacquer vase, 19th century, Iran; vessel, height 32.0 cm, diameter 17.0 cm. Decoration: densely placed plant motifs peonies with gold contouring; on the collar and above the foot flowers red and gold. Inside a card no. 54 with an inscription in Italian noting it is a lacquer vase., classification/role of the creator not recorded., A tall vase with a rounded shoulder and narrow base stands against a plain background; the vase has a dark overall color with an intricate floral pattern etched or painted across most of its body in deep blue and dark green tones, accented with small touches of gold; near the top and above the base there are decorative bands featuring a floral motif in brighter colors including red, yellow, orange, green, and a few pale cream tones; the neck and rim of the vase are a solid dark color, and the base has a slightly glossy dark finish with thin gold-colored edging.
