Sake bottle tokkuri, maker, Japanese, Bizen; 19th century Edo–Meiji. Ceramic vessel with spherical belly and narrow cylindrical neck; height 18 cm, diameter 11.8 cm. Covered with brown glaze that becomes light coffee-colored and spotted on the upper belly and neck. Belly decorated with a branch of biwa Japanese medlar: fruits in green-yellow glaze inlaid with mother-of-pearl, leaves made using sprinkling on black lacquer., A rounded ceramic vessel with a narrow, slightly curved neck sits against a plain light gray background, showing a textured surface in dark brown and reddish-brown tones with subtle horizontal striations and areas of darker mottling; a small golden-yellow leaf-shaped decoration is visible on one side, and the vessel rests on a reflective surface that mirrors its base faintly.
