Bowl, ceramics, Persian, Qajar dynasty 1785–1925, 2nd half of the 19th century, Iran. Vessel, height 9 cm, diameter 20 cm. Decoration: gazelles, figural scenes, lions, female figures; decoration on rims: figure with nargile, other figures, lion, palmettes, architecture, inscriptions. Maker, provenance includes Abdullazad Mirza Baba fl. ante 1939., A ceramic bowl with visible chips and a repaired break sits on a reflective surface; the bowl's exterior is decorated with painted figurative scenes and ornamental bands in blue, white, brown, and black, with touches of green and beige in the glaze and repair areas. The rim shows a thin brown edge and the interior near the rim displays a decorative band in blue and black. The body of the bowl features blue floral and wave-like motifs alternating with small painted humanlike figures in blue and brown tones, and a larger blue animallike form toward one side. The foot of the bowl is unglazed or worn, showing beige and brown clay, and the glossy glazed surfaces create a soft reflected image beneath the bowl against a neutral grayish-lavender background.
