Bowl, late 19th century, Iran. Ceramic vessel, height 8.5 cm, diameter 19 cm. Decoration on the rim: Rostam, with a dragon and Majnun i Lejla and the date 1893. Persian, Qajar dynasty 1785–1925. Figural scenes, literary motifs; imagery includes dragons and birds. Function: tableware/utility ceramic., A shallow ceramic bowl with a flared rim and a short foot rests against a plain mauve-gray background; the bowl's surface is primarily off-white with green painted decorative motifs including stylized plant forms and scrolling patterns, and there are areas of brownish-orange pigment on parts of the decoration; the rim shows a narrow band of darker green ornament and the lower body repeats green motifs above a green horizontal border, while the foot is off-white with some signs of wear.
