Candlestick mash'al, Islamic art, Persian, Safavid dynasty 1501–1736. Metal candlestick in the form of a column standing upon a low, widening base, its three sections separated by hachured rings. The 10-faceted shaft is decorated with stylized plant ornament and a zigzag; just under the upper edge is a band of inscriptions in nast?aliq script; beneath this are hunting scenes with riders and horses; the background filled with a dense tendril pattern. The base is decorated with representations of huntsmen; an inscription in Armenian characters appears on the base edge, serving a decorative function. 17th–18th century, Iran. Height 28.0 cm; diameter 17.3 cm; weight 0.71 kg., An upright cylindrical metal object with a flared base, shown against a plain light gray background; the object is predominantly dark bronze with areas of muted gold detailing, and its surface is covered in intricate carved or etched repeating patterns and decorative motifs. The midsection and upper rim have raised bands with a ribbed texture in a muted gold color, and the body shows ornate floral and geometric designs in darker and slightly lighter bronze tones. The flared base displays similar engraved patterns and the overall finish is a combination of dark brownish bronze and subtle golden highlights.
