Candlestick mash'al, Islamic, Persian, Safavid dynasty 1501–1736; 17th–18th century, Iran. Metal candlestick in the form of a column standing on a low, widening base with three sections separated by hachured rings. Decoration: 10-faceted shaft with stylized plant ornament and a zigzag; band of nast'alik inscriptions just under the upper edge; hunting scenes beneath, background filled with a dense tendril pattern; base decorated with huntsmen and an edge inscription in Armenian characters of decorative value. Height 28.0 cm; diameter 17.3 cm; weight 0.71 kg., A tall cylindrical metal object with a flared base stands against a light gray background. The surface shows intricate engraved and etched ornamentation with repeating floral and geometric patterns and some circular medallion designs. The object has a darker brownish-gray patina with areas of muted golden-bronze highlighting on raised bands and edges. There are a few horizontal ridged bands of brighter golden-bronze encircling the shaft near the top and bottom. The flared base widens smoothly and shares the same decorative motifs and coloration as the shaft. The overall appearance is of an aged metallic artifact featuring dark brown, gray, and golden-bronze tones.
