Gui-type incense burner hu, attributed to Hu Wenming fl. ca. 1583–1614. Chinese; Qing dynasty, 19th century. Bronze ritual vessel for incense, height 7 cm, width 18.6 cm, diameter 13.1 cm. Decorated with dragons, phoenixes, unicorns qilin, plant ornament, sea waves, and hundred antiquities baigu motif., An ornate, low round vessel with two short handles sits centered on a reflective surface, showing a mirrored image below; the vessel is decorated with raised, intricate motifs and relief patterns, including stylized animal and organic forms, and has a banded rim and foot with further decorative detailing. The visible colors are gold and dark brown on the vessel, with reflections of those tones on the surface, set against a light gray background.
