Gui-type incense burner hu, attributed to Hu Wenming fl. ca. 1583–1614. Chinese, 19th century, Qing dynasty. Bronze ritual vessel used as an incense burner. Decorated with dragons, phoenixes, unicorns qilin, plant ornament, sea waves, and hundred antiquities baigu motifs. Height 7 cm; width 18.6 cm; diameter 13.1 cm., An ornate metal bowl sits centered against a plain light gray background, its surface showing a mix of dark bronze and bright gold tones; the bowl has a rounded body with a slightly flared rim and a short base, and it features raised decorative bands and embossed motifs around its sides, including flowing wave-like patterns and stylized organic shapes; a vertical decorative strip with a face-like element projects slightly from the front, and the interior and rim show a warm golden sheen; the bowl rests on a reflective surface that mirrors its colors and shapes.
