Amitayus, the Buddha of Infinite Life, shown seated in a meditative pose with hands folded in a meditative gesture. Hair styled in a chignon with a high bun tied on top of the head; hair is covered in blue. Head adorned with a five-leaf crown inlaid with semi-precious stones, set on a headband mounted on the underside. Back painted orange. The hair flowing to the shoulders, the sash covering the shoulders, the stones, and the earrings probably large, flower-shaped, falling on the shoulders are missing. Bottom of the sculpture closed with a wooden plaque secured with metal pins and mortar; the plaque bears a drawing of a quadruple vajra. Date: 1770. Place of origin: China. Sculpture. Height 22.0 cm; width 11.5 cm; depth 8.9 cm., A gilded seated figure on an ornate throne viewed in profile, showing a figure with a headdress and long hair or decorative elements falling behind the head, a floral ear ornament, and hands resting in the lap; the throne has a tall, carved back with layered decorative motifs and a pierced, scrolling base with cloudlike patterns; visible colors include gold, blue, brown, and hints of darker worn areas on the gilding, all set against a neutral gray background.
