Amitayus, Buddha of Infinite Life, shown seated in a meditative pose with hands folded in a meditative gesture. Qing dynasty 1644–1911, dated 1770. Sino-Tibetan style; Himalayan/Chinese/Tibetan Buddhist art. Sculpture, height 22.0 cm, width 11.5 cm, depth 8.9 cm. Hair styled in a chignon with a high bun tied on top of the head and painted blue; head adorned with a five-leaf crown inlaid with semi-precious stones set on a headband mounted on the underside. Ushnisha present; lotus throne and halo indicated. The back is painted orange. Missing elements include hair flowing to the shoulders, the sash covering the shoulders, stones, and earrings probably large, flower-shaped, falling on the shoulders. The bottom of the sculpture is closed with a wooden plaque secured with metal pins and mortar; the plaque bears a drawing of a quadruple vajra., inscriptions present., A gilded statue of a seated figure on a decorative platform, showing a figure with a serene face, closed eyes, and detailed hair and crown ornamentation, hands resting in the lap in a meditative gesture; the figure wears draped garments and a sash across one shoulder, and has floral-shaped earrings and chest ornament. Behind the figure is an ornate halo with swirling flame-like motifs. The platform has carved decorative scrollwork and floral motifs, with an apron-like drapery hanging over the front and open spaces beneath supported by carved elements. Visible colors include gold, dark brown, and muted blue accents, set against a neutral gray background.
