Tray on legs kakeban, One of a set of three tables placed one on top of the other; almost square red tops with high edges and bow legs connected at the bottom by a square frame, forming the base of the table. Sides and legs covered with black lacquer and decorated with gold powder using the maki-e technique in a motif of blooming plum and pine branches; motifs include plum trees, flowers, trees, pines, twigs, winter. Early 19th century Edo period, Japan. Piece of furniture. Height 22.0 cm; width 41.5 cm; depth 40.0 cm., A low, square tray table with a red flat top and raised edges sits centered on a light gray background, supported by a black lacquered frame with curved legs. The black frame is decorated with gold floral and leaf motifs along its sides and legs. The red surface contrasts with the black and gold of the base, and the overall scene shows muted shades of gray in the surrounding area.
