Crossguard tsuba, Japanese, Edo period 1603–1868, early 18th century, weapons — sword crossguard tsuba, maru gata round, kaku mimi rectangular edge. Aizu-Shôami style. Tsuba with oval ryôhitsu-ana blinded with shakudô. Decorated in positive openwork yô sukashi with a hoo phoenix perched on a willow tree; decoration and edge embellished with gold inlay using the nunome technique. Not signed. Materials/technique: metal shakudô, gold inlay. Dimensions: height 8.4 cm, width 8.2 cm, depth 0.45 cm. Japan., A circular carved object with an openwork design showing a few curved and linear cutouts, with decorative raised textured areas and floral-like motifs; the object has a dark brown base color with several areas of gold detailing and a few worn spots where the gold appears faded, set against a smooth light gray background.
