Bowl, Islamic art, Arabic, Ayyubid dynasty 1171–1341, ceramics, Arabic ceramics, Middle Eastern ceramics. Bowl on a ring-shaped foot with wide bottom and inverted-cone profile. Quartz ceramic body probably Egypt, 12th century. Decorated in black with linear and radial ornament: stylized plant motifs—a lotus flower and a leaf—surrounded by rays of light; stylized flower in the mirror. Decoration painted in a free brush style associated with Syrian artists of the 12th–13th centuries; composition shows formal simplification characteristic of the period. 13th century, Syria, vessel; weight 0.26 kg; height 7.4 cm; diameter 15.9 cm., A shallow ceramic bowl seen from above showing its interior and rim, with a few areas of glaze missing on the edge revealing the underlying clay; the bowl has a white base color with several decorative black brushstroke patterns and a few bold blue brushstrokes forming radial and curved motifs; the rim features a repeating triangular pattern in black and blue against the white background, and there are subtle brownish-beige tones where the clay is exposed on the foot and small chipped spots; the background behind the bowl is a pale gray.
