Bowl on a ring-shaped foot, wide bottom, inverted-cone shape characteristic of Syrian bowls and goblets produced during the Ayyubid reign. Likely quartz ceramic mass, probably made in Egypt in the 12th century — a feature of Ayyubid wares. Decoration: stylized plant motifs lotus flower and leaf in the mirror, linear and radial ornament painted in black; rays of light surround the central motif. Painted in a free brush style used and popularized by Syrian artists in the 12th–13th centuries; formal simplification of ornament reflects widespread Middle Eastern aesthetic trends of the period. M.P., 13th century, Syria, vessel; weight 0.26 kg, height 7.4 cm, diameter 15.9 cm., A round ceramic object with a central circular motif, showing a decorative pattern of curved and angular shapes in black and blue on a white background; the outer rim alternates scalloped dark and blue shapes against white, and the inner rings include black concentric bands and radiating black lines with blue accents; the surface shows small worn spots with a few tan flecks and the overall background behind the object is a uniform gray.
