Bowl on a ring-shaped foot, wide bottom, inverted-cone shape characteristic of Syrian bowls and goblets produced during the Ayyubid period. Likely quartz ceramic mass probably made in Egypt in the 12th century, a feature of Ayyubid wares. Decoration: stylized plant motifs β a lotus flower and a leaf β in the mirror, surrounded by rays of light; linear and radial ornament painted in black; stylized flower in the mirror. Decoration executed in a free brush style popularized by Syrian artists in the 12thβ13th centuries; composition shows formal simplification typical of contemporary Middle Eastern ornamentation. M.P., 13th century, Syria; vessel; weight 0.26 kg; height 7.4 cm; diameter 15.9 cm., A small shallow ceramic bowl sits centered on a smooth reflective surface, showing a muted reflection below. The bowl has an off-white to cream base color with a slightly rough unglazed foot in a sandy beige. The interior rim shows a decorative band with dark blue triangular shapes alternating with off-white areas, and the inner surface appears darker with shades of deep blue and black. The exterior has subtle pale blue brush marks and a thin dark line near the upper side. The background and surface are a uniform soft gray.
