Decorated with a delicate negative openwork creating a motif of a moon partially hidden behind clouds and a flight of wild geese. Unsigned. 18th century Edo period 1603–1868, Japan, tsuba, height 7.1 cm, width 6.9 cm, depth 0.35 cm, A round dark metal object with a worn, rusty surface sits against a neutral gray background; the object has a few cutouts including a central vertical elongated cutout and two irregular oval cutouts flanking it, a few smaller star-like slits near one edge, and an irregular silhouette cutout near the top, showing colors of dark brown, black, gray, and hints of reddish rust.
