Bowl with a lid, decorated ceramics colored porcelain, Chinese art, Qing dynasty, Tongzhi 1862–1874; bowl on a ring foot with a lid-stand; exterior painted with a duck among reeds in a delicate black line and an inscription; lid painted with a branch bearing peach fruit; 1862–1874; China; vessel; height 9 cm, diameter 10.3 cm., A white porcelain covered bowl sits centered against a gray background, displaying a rounded lid with a short cylindrical knob and a flared rim edged in a thin gold band. The bowl body flares outward from a small foot and is also trimmed with a thin gold line along the top. Delicate gray-brown painted scenes encircle the bowl, including a scene with a bird among stylized plants and foliage, and additional fine botanical sketches on the lid. The surface of the bowl is glossy and reflects softly onto the smooth gray surface beneath it, creating a mirrored, slightly blurred reflection of the vessel. The visible colors are white, gray, brown, gold, and subtle darker gray tones in the painted decoration.
