Tea canister chaire of the mimitsuki type, Seto; . Japanese art; Edo 1603–1868 / Meiji 1868–1912. Ceramics container chaire for tea. Brown container with two handles and a lid in a navy blue brocade bag silk. Dark brown porous wheel-thrown clay; light brown glaze with rough air bubble cracks; applied handles. 19th century. Japan, Owari. Vessel; height 6.3 cm, diameter 5 cm., A rounded ceramic jar with a short neck and a small handle-like protrusion near the top sits centered against a plain background. The jar shows a mottled surface in shades of brown and darker brown with some speckled spots and a rougher textured lower band in darker earthy brown. A pale, cream-colored circular lid with a small knob rests on the neck of the jar. The background and surface beneath the jar are gray, and a subtle reflection of the jar appears below it.
