Crossguard tsuba by Kikuoka Masayoshi; oval tsuba tatemaru gata with rectangular edge kaku mimi, katahitsu ana, oval seppa dai. Decorated in high relief using the iro-e takazôgan technique inlaying with multicolored metals on a grained nanako background. Obverse shows two karashishi Chinese guardian lions by a rock; reverse depicts a waterfall flowing among rocks. Signature on the reverse. Japan, 1st half of the 19th century Edo period, 1603–1868. Materials/function: tsuba sword crossguard for katana. Dimensions: height 6.8 cm, width 6.3 cm, depth 0.3 cm., A rounded metal object with a textured brown surface and a central smooth brown area featuring an elongated cutout, decorated with a few ornate raised embellishments in metallic gold and darker bronze tones; one embellishment shows swirling cloud-like forms, another resembles a curled creature with gold highlights, and a third is a rock-like form with embedded gold accents, all set against a muted gray background.
