Vase, Chinese, 19th century. Colored porcelain vessel, slightly tapering toward the bottom with a thick neck slightly flared upward and two small handles shaped like a plum blossom branch. Body decorated with an elaborate battle scene of warriors on foot and on horseback; neck shows a dignitary surrounded by her entourage. Figurative scenes, plant ornaments, horses, warriors, landscapes, battles. Height 61 cm; diameter 19.6 cm., A tall ceramic vase with a crackled white ground decorated all over with painted scenes in green, pink, orange, brown, purple, and black; the vase has a flared neck and a bulbous shoulder narrowing toward the base, with decorative green and orange borders near the top and bottom; the main body depicts a crowded scene of many human figures wearing robes and armor, some mounted on horses and some holding banners and weapons, interspersed with stylized green hills and foliage; the neck shows a group of standing figures and decorative motifs, and small sculpted dark handles are attached at the shoulder; the surface has visible crackle lines and the entire object sits on a dark flat platform against a dark gray background.
