Fangding incense burner with cover, Chinese, Qing dynasty 1644–1911, 19th century. Bronze vessel decorated with archaic ornament in flat relief, featuring taotie masks and fantastic creatures. Height 15.2 cm, width 14.0 cm, depth 10.9 cm., A small rectangular metal vessel with a gold color sits on four cylindrical legs and has two short vertical handles at the top corners; the body of the vessel is decorated with intricate raised patterns and swirling motifs on all visible sides, and the legs show linear carved designs; the interior of the vessel has a darker, slightly mottled gold-brown tone, and the whole object casts a soft reflection on the pale gray surface beneath it; visible colors include gold, darker gold-brown, pale gray, and subtle shadowed grays.
