Crossguard tsuba, Oval tsuba tatemaru gata with an irregular edge, surface textured to imitate rock and cut into openwork irregular elongated holes. Inlaid in high relief with a motif of a blooming rose bush, a snail and flying bats. Signed: signature in flat gold inlay: italic character ju naga. 18th century Edo period, 1603–1868, Japan. Tsuba; height 8.0 cm, width 7.5 cm, depth 0.5 cm., A round, flat metal object with an irregular, rough edge suspended against a plain light gray background; the metal surface is primarily dark brown with areas of darker gray and black, and it features a few smooth oval cutouts and several irregular holes. There are small decorative floral elements in a bright gold color clustered along one side and a few tiny gold accents elsewhere, while some areas of the metal show a subtle sheen and slight texture variations.
