Bowl, Toyota Masanobu craftsman, Satsuma ware, 2nd half of the 19th century Meiji period, Japan, Kagoshima. Deep bowl on a low ring-shaped base with a knobbed body and serrated rim reminiscent of a chrysanthemum. Outer wall: clumps of blooming irises growing from water, flowers and leaves painted in two-tone blue enamel with gold outlines and stylized waves/ripples. Inner surface: large gold chrysanthemum rosette imperial crest in the mirror with the Tokugawa family coat of arms in the center; side wall filled with dense, colorful ornament of various chrysanthemum flowers and butterflies in white, red, blue, gold, and green overglaze enamels and gold. Top near the edge: uniform cobalt blue valance ornament. Signature on the base painted in gold reading: Satsuma yaki, Satsuma kuni, Ijun'in workshop, Toyota Masanobu. Vessel; height 12.0 cm, diameter 28.0 cm., A shallow scalloped ceramic bowl with a crackled cream exterior and a deep blue interior rim is shown, decorated around its outer surface with a continuous band of stylized floral and leaf motifs in dark blue accented with subtle gold highlights; the scalloped rim and petal-like vertical segments create a textured profile, and the bowl sits on a low circular foot against a neutral gray background, with visible variations of cream, dark blue, gold, and faint beige tones.
