Deep bowl on a low ring-shaped base with a knobbed body and serrated rim, reminiscent of a chrysanthemum flower. Outer wall decorated with clumps of blooming irises growing from stylized water; flowers and leaves in two-tone blue enamel, outlines and wave/ripple motifs in gold. Inner surface bears a large gold chrysanthemum rosette imperial coat of arms in the mirror with the Tokugawa family coat of arms in the center; side wall filled with dense, colorful chrysanthemum flowers and butterflies in white, red, blue, gold, and green overglaze enamels and gold. Composition finished near the rim with a uniform cobalt-blue valance ornament. Signature painted in gold on the base reading: Satsuma yaki, Satsuma kuni, Ijun'in workshop, Toyota Masanobu. Satsuma ware, 2nd half of the 19th century Meiji period, Kagoshima, Japan. Vessel; height 12.0 cm, diameter 28.0 cm., A scalloped ceramic bowl sits against a neutral gray background, showing a cream exterior with a textured surface and a deep blue floral band around the lower outer side; the inner rim has a scalloped dark blue border with gold accents, and the interior is richly decorated with an intricate floral pattern in gold, red, teal, blue, and cream.
