Cup, Persian, Qajar dynasty 1785–1925, 19th century. Ceramic vessel, height 25.5 cm, diameter 18.4 cm. Decoration: cartouches with a bust of a man, animals lions, birds, figures, flowers, geometric and small plant ornament; figurative motifs., A decorative goblet-shaped metal vessel with a flared rim and a pedestal base, covered in ornate embossed and painted designs; the primary colors visible are gold, blue, green, red, black, and white. The upper bowl area shows gold animal figures against a blue patterned background, with small circular medallion shapes at the sides containing stylized human faces in gold. Below that, a band features gold birds and other animals on a green leafy background, followed by a red and white decorative border. The narrow central stem has a ribbed gold section and patterned white and black bands, while the lower flared foot is decorated with gold elephant figures set on blue patterned panels and additional red and gold scrollwork, all sitting on a circular base with alternating black and white braided motifs. The surface displays textured relief work and fine painted floral and foliate motifs throughout.
