Crossguard tsuba, Ichiryûsai Masamitsu; Shôami school. Oval tsuba tatemaru gata decorated in high relief with colored metals iro-e zôgan: on one side a stream winds among grasses and dandelions; on the other a buffalo and a she-buffalo graze in a flowery meadow. Japanese, Edo period, 1st half of the 19th century. Materials: metals with colored inlay. Function: sword crossguard. Dimensions: height 7.6 cm; width 7.6 cm; depth 0.4 cm., A round flat metal object with a dark brown, rusted surface floating against a light gray background, showing a few elongated oval cutouts and a central rectangular slot, and decorated on one side with a few small gold-colored floral or leaf-like accents.
