Crossguard tsuba, Ichiryûsai Masamitsu; Shôami school. Oval tsuba tatemaru gata decorated in high relief with colored metals iro-e zôgan: on one side a stream winds among grasses and dandelions; on the other a buffalo and a she-buffalo graze in a flowery meadow. 1st half of the 19th century Edo period, 1603–1868, Japan. Materials: metal with colored-metal inlay. Dimensions: height 7.6 cm; width 7.6 cm; depth 0.4 cm., A round dark brown metal object with three irregular vertical openings near its center, decorated with small areas of bright gold leaf-like shapes and floral motifs, and featuring a few raised dark metallic animal figures, all set against a smooth gray background; visible colors include dark brown, gold, black, and gray.
