Crossguard tsuba, Suiyôdô, Toshimasa, Japanese, Edo period 1st half of the 19th century. Tsuba in the shape of a rectangle with rounded sides nadegaku gata, katahitsu ana; copper sekigane fillings. Decorated on both sides with high-relief decoration inlaid with multicolored metals, depicting on the obverse a rooster by a fence overgrown with bindweed and a chicken in the grass among flowers; on the reverse a hen with two chicks. Materials: metals multicolored inlay, copper sekigane. Dimensions: height 6.6 cm, width 5.8 cm, depth 0.3 cm. Subjects/iconography: plants, flowers, animals, birds, hens, roosters, chicks, chrysanthemums, morning glory, wolfberries., A dark, oval metal plate with a smooth, slightly textured surface and a central pair of irregular openings, featuring a decorative scene near the lower left with a black bird with detailed feather texture, a few small birds in gold and dark tones, stylized grass and plant elements in gold and dark green, and a vertical stem with gold flower heads; overall colors visible include dark brown, black, gold, dark green, and small areas of muted reddish-brown.
