Jug, late 19th century, Northern India, Iran, silver vessel, height 43 cm, weight 1795 g. A tall silver jug with a pear-shaped body and tall conical neck that tapers upward into a wide spout. The entire vessel is richly decorated with plant motifs—leaves, twigs, carnations, and tendrils. On one side of the belly is a blank shield. The handle is decorated with images of spotted animals with large ears and open mouths; a hinge at the upper edge of the handle indicates the vessel originally had a lid. Style: Islamic art; themes: zoomorphism, coats of arms, floral ornament., The image shows an ornate metal pitcher with a high curved handle and a flared spout, covered all over in dense raised floral and foliage patterns and decorative motifs. The surface appears textured with carved leaves, flowers, and vine-like designs forming an overall repeating pattern that wraps around the rounded body and continues onto the pedestal base. The handle is sculpted with decorative elements and a small protruding ornamental feature near its lower attachment. The pitcher rests on a flared foot decorated with bands of repeating floral and geometric motifs. The visible colors are silver and shades of gray.
