Jug, late 19th century, Northern India, or Iran, silver vessel, height 43 cm, weight 1795 g. A tall silver jug with a pear-shaped body and a tall, conical neck that tapers upward into a wide spout. The entire surface is richly chased with plant motifs—leaves, twigs, tendrils, carnations and other flowers. On one side of the belly is a blank shield. The handle is decorated with spotted animals with large ears and open mouths; a hinge at the upper edge of the handle indicates the jug originally had a lid. Style: Islamic art; motifs: zoomorphism, coats of arms, floral ornament., A single ornate metal pitcher with a curved handle and a flared spout is shown against a plain light gray background; the pitcher has an overall silvery-gray color with a slightly darker patina in recessed areas and is covered in dense raised floral and leaf patterns, including stylized blossoms, vines, and textured foliage across the body, neck, and base, while the handle features repeating decorative motifs and a sculpted element near its top and midpoint; the base is flared and decorated with bands of repeating ornamental patterns, and the surface shows subtle variations in sheen where highlights and shadows emphasize the embossed details.
