Jug, late 19th century, Northern India, or Iran, silver vessel, height 43 cm, weight 1795 g. A tall silver jug with a pear-shaped body and a tall, conical neck that tapers upward into a wide spout. The entire surface is richly chased with plant motifs—leaves, twigs, tendrils, carnations and other flowers. On one side of the belly is a blank shield. The handle is decorated with spotted animals with large ears and open mouths; a hinge at the upper edge of the handle indicates the jug originally had a lid.
