Crossguard tsuba, sword crossguard in namban style; openwork, egg-shaped tsuba with a separated edge and pearling. Rectangular seppa-dai, decorated in low relief with a stylised volute ornament. Surface decorated with an openwork plant tendril karakusa incorporating two sacred jewels tama and four mantis heads seen from the front. Not signed. 18th century Edo period, 1603–1868, Japan. Materials: metal tsuba; dimensions: height 6.5 cm, width 5.8 cm, depth 0.35 cm., A round, ornate metal object with an openwork lattice pattern sits against a smooth light gray background, showing a metallic surface in shades of dark gray and silver with small areas of muted gold. The object has a beaded outer rim and an inner rectangular opening framed by raised, carved details. A few symmetrical decorative motifs and flowing curves form a repeating network across the surface, and there are several rounded protrusions and textured elements integrated into the design. The overall color palette includes dark gray, silver, light gray, and hints of gold.
