Crossguard tsuba, sword crossguard, namban style, openwork, flowers, openwork plant tendril karakusa with two sacred jewels tama woven into it and four mantis heads seen from the front. Egg-shaped tsuba with a separated edge and decorated with pearling; rectangular seppa dai decorated in low relief with a stylised volute ornament. Not signed. 18th century Edo period, 1603–1868, Japan. Tsuba; height 6.5 cm, width 5.8 cm, depth 0.35 cm., An oval metallic object with an openwork lattice pattern and a raised beaded rim, shown against a light gray background; the metal appears dark gray with areas of lighter gray and small touches of gold; the lattice contains a central rectangular opening flanked by two rounded openings and decorated with stylized animal or bird figures and floral-like motifs integrated into the filigree.
