Ganesha, 19th century, India. Sculpture, height 26.0 cm, width 17.5 cm. The deity sits on a double lotus throne placed on a rectangular flat base; the whole is mounted on a large, strongly profiled pedestal. At the back of the figure is a circle of fire. The figurine consists of three parts: a statuette inserted onto a pedestal and a fire ring inserted into the pedestal holes using two pins. Iconography/details: Indian/Hindu art; Shaivism; elephants; tusks; crowns/tiaras; lotus throne; halos; ropes; mounts; armor; birds; rats; fire; gluttony; religion., A small sculptural object sits on a stepped rectangular base finished in gold tones with decorative relief patterns, supporting a vertical gold-toned backplate with carved ornamentation and a bronze-toned seated elephant-headed figure on a rounded pedestal; the figure faces to the right, has detailed headdress and body decoration, and rests on the pedestal which in turn sits on the gilt base, all set against a light gray background with visible colors including gold, bronze, brown, and gray.
