Crossguard tsuba, Round tsuba maru gata in the Chinese Cantonese style, with a distinct, finely fluted gilded edge and a narrow border with a stylized, delicately engraved plant twig. Seppa dai silver, round, decorated with an engraved horizontal stripe motif of stylized groups of trees. Shield decoration is openwork, in the shape of a braid with four cross-shaped rectangles containing ideograms in the style of seal script. Not signed. 18th century Edo period, 1603–1868, Japan. Tsuba; diameter 7.6 cm, thickness 0.5 cm., A round metal object with a lattice-like openwork pattern and a raised textured rim, showing colors of dark brown, gray, gold, and hints of silver; the center has a smooth gray area flanked by two rounded cutouts and a tapered central opening, with a group of rectangular decorative panels around the inner circle that include gold accents; the lattice sections form a repeating geometric grid and the rim has a ridged pattern with worn gold coloring against a gray background.
