Vase with two taotie masks; maker, from Ignacy Jan Paderewski; Chinese, Qing dynasty 1644–1911; 18th–19th century; porcelain vessel with dragons and taotie iconography in full sculpture and bas-relief; height 15.2 cm, width 8.8 cm, depth 3.3 cm., A pale, smooth vessel in a white to creamy color sits centered against a gradient background of dark gray at the top fading to lighter gray toward the bottom. The vessel has a flared mouth with a curved pouring spout, an elongated body with carved decorative patterns, and an attached ornate handle with angular cutouts and a hooked end. The base narrows then flares outward, and subtle carved motifs wrap around the midsection and upper portion of the piece. The surface appears polished and translucent in places, casting soft shadows on the light gray surface beneath it.
