Crossguard tsuba, Kaneie, school craftsman author. Japanese, Edo period 1603–1868, 18th century. Tsuba in the shape of a quatrefoil mokkô with an uchikaeshi edge, katahitsu ana one side hole. Decorated in relief showing the sennin Gama sitting under a tree, holding a staff and looking at a three-legged frog; on the reverse a sketched landscape motif with a waterfall. Details eyes, pebbles, staff inlaid with gold and shakudo. Origin: Fushimi, Yamashiro Province. Materials/subject: weapons — sword crossguard katana. Dimensions: height 7.2 cm, width 6.8 cm, depth 0.4 cm., A round, slightly irregular dark brown metal object with a textured, pitted surface and a scalloped outline, featuring two openings near the center—one elongated teardrop-shaped and one oval—and small raised decorative elements on one side with tiny pale inlays; the background is light gray and the visible colors include dark brown, pale off-white, and light gray.
