Sage, unknown sculptor; figurine of a bonza priest; 19th century, China Qing dynasty, 1644–1911; Chinese art; maker possibly Choynowski, Józef 1833–c.1915 or Dawidow, Alexander Petrovich 1838–1885 attributions uncertain; sculpture; height 10.4 cm, width 6.9 cm, depth 5.0 cm., A small carved figure seen from behind, seated on a base with a rounded head and ears, wearing a draped robe with folds and a high collar, one arm bent with the hand near the chest and the other resting by the side; the surface shows a mottled pattern in shades of peach, pink, beige, and off-white against a neutral gradient background of gray transitioning to lighter gray toward the bottom.
