Sarcophagus mask with a partially preserved fragment of a wig above the forehead painted yellow with traces of black polychrome. Separated from the forehead by cherry-red and black bands. The eyes are relatively large with black rims, pupils, and eyebrows; the whites are white. The nose is long, narrow, widening evenly towards the nostrils. The mouth is primitively modeled. A fragment of the neck is preserved under the chin. The face is painted cherry-red. Partially preserved mounting pegs at the back. Ptolemaic Period, 332–30 BC; Egypt. Sarcophagus mask; height 25.7 cm, width 18 cm, thickness 8.2 cm., A weathered sculpted face with a textured headdress rendered in shades of brown, tan, pinkish-red, black, white, and grey; the face shows a smooth worn surface with visible cracks and chipped areas, large painted eyes with dark pupils and white surrounds, dark painted eyebrows and a horizontal dark band across the forehead, a defined nose and slightly smiling lips with worn edges, and a rough, broken lower section tapering to a jagged point, all set against a neutral grey background.
