Fragment of a stucco mask. Lower part of the face of a bearded man; preserved are the chin, mouth, cheeks, and part of the nose. Sarcophagus mask, 2nd century, Roman period, Egypt. Height 11.7 cm; width 8.7 cm., A roughly oval stone with a rough, pitted surface sits against a flat gray background; the stone shows a base color of light gray and off-white with patches and streaks of reddish-brown and small areas of darker gray to black speckling, and its surface texture includes cracks, ridges, and uneven indentations with a few areas that appear smoother and a few that look more granular.
