Lamp, Oval lamp made of yellow-gray clay with a high container and two handles through which a bronze chain is strung for hanging. The high, sloping arms are decorated with a plastic ornament of a rectangular mesh. A channel running perpendicularly through the arms from the handle reaches the wick hole and surrounds it, creating a high rim. Coptic oil lamp, 5th/6th century, Egypt. Height 10 cm, width 7.1 cm., A small, worn object with a rough, textured surface in shades of beige, light brown, and gray sits against a plain gray background; it has a hollow cavity at one end and another rounded depression near the top, a raised ridge curving along one side, and a grid-like pattern of recessed squares on one face; a small dark metal loop is attached through a hole near the top, and the object shows areas of darker discoloration and pitting across its surface.
